Second Arrest Made in Deadly Syracuse Shooting

A second arrest has been made in connection with the deadly shooting that occurred on Bellevue Avenue in Syracuse. Seventeen-year-old Drevan Felder turned himself in to the police on Tuesday (September 23) and was charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Felder, along with another individual, allegedly opened fire from VEO motorized bikes, resulting in the death of 26-year-old Jakari Townsend and injuring another man, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooting took place around 8:00 p.m. on September 16, when Felder and his accomplice fired at least 11 shots with 9mm handguns, according to Syracuse.com. The incident occurred outside J & B Grocery, where Townsend was found with multiple gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead at Upstate University Hospital. The other victim, a 25-year-old man, was shot in the torso and shoulder but survived.

David Herndon, 33, was also arrested and charged with second-degree murder for his role in the incident. Herndon allegedly drove a car leading the shooters to the scene. He was tracked using a parole GPS bracelet and cameras, as reported by CNY Central. Herndon is currently held at the Onondaga County Justice Center.
