In Syracuse, the legal proceedings against David Huff, accused of murdering his girlfriend and son, have seen a new development. A non-contact restraining order was issued Tuesday (September 23) to protect the mother of Huff's son. Huff, 43, is charged with the murders of Yeraldith Tschudy, 32, and Jeremiah Huff, 11, which occurred on March 17 at a home on Roney Road.
Huff faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder for both deaths, second-degree murder for each victim, and criminal possession of a weapon. Additionally, a grand jury indicted him on an attempted murder charge for allegedly pointing a Remington 870 Express 12-gauge shotgun at his stepfather. His defense team, led by Shaun Chase of Cerio Law Offices, PLLC, is pursuing a psychiatric defense, although a psychiatric test report was not mentioned in court on Tuesday.
Huff is expected back in court on October 20, with his trial scheduled to begin on May 18, 2026. According to CNY Central, the defense is seeking a psychiatric evaluation, and a report was expected by September 18, but it was not discussed in the latest court session.
The case has drawn significant attention due to the severity of the charges and the potential use of an insanity defense. Huff's trial is anticipated to be closely watched as it unfolds in the coming months.
