Memorial services are set for William Pufky, a 58-year-old Onondaga County Sheriff's Department deputy, who tragically lost his life following a motorcycle crash in Lincoln. The accident occurred on Sunday (September 21) when Pufky, riding a 1998 Harley Davidson, lost control on Nelson Road near Watson Road. His motorcycle veered off the road, overturned, and ended up in a ditch. Despite being airlifted to Upstate University Hospital, Pufky succumbed to his injuries the following day.
Pufky, a resident of LaFayette, was off-duty at the time of the crash and was riding with friends. According to the Madison County Sheriff's Office, no other vehicles were involved, and the cause of the accident remains under investigation. Pufky was a 23-year veteran of the department, recognized for his dedication and service. He was honored as the sheriff’s office employee of the month in 2022 and had previously helped save an inmate's life.
In a Facebook post, Onondaga County Sheriff Toby Shelley expressed profound sadness over Pufky's passing, highlighting his kindness and commitment to helping others. Sheriff Shelley also noted that Pufky's family chose to donate his organs, reflecting his lifelong dedication to service.
Calling hours for Pufky will be held on Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at New Comer Cremations and Funerals in North Syracuse, followed by a memorial service at 7 p.m. The community mourns the loss of a dedicated public servant and extends condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.
