A 16-year-old boy is in the hospital after a serious dirt bike accident in Lorraine. The incident occurred on Saturday (September 20) around 12:45 p.m. on an ATV trail near Hessel Road in Jefferson County. According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the teen struck a fallen tree partially covering the trail, resulting in the partial amputation of his lower leg.
The boy's parents, friends, and family searched for him using a UTV while emergency services were en route. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Snyder located the injured teen around 1:10 p.m., applied a tourniquet, and assisted in moving him to a location accessible to emergency personnel. The teen was then transported to SUNY Upstate Hospital in Syracuse for treatment.
The rescue operation involved multiple agencies, including the New York State Police, Adams Fire Department, Lorraine Fire Department, Mannsville Fire Department, South Jeff Rescue Squad, and Mercy Flight. Several friends and neighbors also helped in the rescue efforts. The incident highlights the importance of safety precautions on ATV trails and the quick response of emergency services.
According to WSYR-TV, the community came together swiftly to aid the injured teen, showcasing a strong support network in the face of emergencies.
