Drivers in DeWitt, New York, should prepare for lane closures on Interstate 481 this week. As part of the Interstate 81 Viaduct Project, both northbound and southbound lanes will be reduced to one lane. According to the New York State Department of Transportation, these closures are necessary to install overhead sign structures.

The closures will occur between Exit 5E (Kirkville Road) and Exit 4 (I-690 West/Syracuse/Fairgrounds) for southbound traffic starting Tuesday (September 23) at 6 p.m. and continuing until 6 a.m. on Wednesday (September 24). Northbound traffic will face closures between Exit 4 and Exit 5W (Kirkville Road) from Wednesday (September 24) at 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Thursday (September 25), as reported by WSYR-TV.

Construction activities are weather-dependent, meaning schedules could change if conditions are unfavorable. The New York State Department of Transportation urges drivers to exercise caution and adhere to all traffic control devices, including signs and flaggers, while navigating the work zone. Motorists should also be aware that fines are doubled for speeding in work zones.

The lane closures are part of ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure in the area, with the project expected to continue affecting traffic patterns in the coming weeks.
