A free electronic upcycling event is scheduled for Saturday (September 20) in Syracuse. Syracuse University, in partnership with CXtec and the United Way, will host the event from 8 a.m. to noon at the Skytop Parking Lot-Ballentine Field. Community members are encouraged to bring their outdated technology, such as computers, cellphones, printers, and tablets, for safe and sustainable disposal.

The event aims to reduce electronic waste in landfills while supporting the United Way of Central New York. CXtec employees will be present to evaluate items for potential upcycling, with proceeds from resale or value recovery benefiting the United Way. According to Syracuse University, acceptable items include laptops, video equipment, and hard drives. However, participants should check the full list of acceptable items on the Sunnking Acceptable Materials for Electronic Recycling webpage.

Registration is required to participate, and attendees can sign up online. Walk-ins are also welcome. The event is part of the University's efforts to engage with the community and promote sustainability. The University’s Office of Community Engagement is committed to creating a positive impact through initiatives like this, connecting the City of Syracuse and the Central New York community with the University's resources.
