Syracuse Police Investigate Fatal Shooting on South Side

Syracuse police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead and another injured on Tuesday night (September 16). Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert indicating gunfire near Bellevue Avenue and Hudson Street. Upon arrival, they found a 27-year-old man shot in the chest near J-and-B Grocery and a 25-year-old man with wounds to his torso and shoulder. Both victims were transported to Upstate University Hospital, where the 27-year-old succumbed to his injuries. The condition of the 25-year-old remains stable, according to Syracuse.com.

The area was heavily patrolled by police, with Bellevue Avenue closed from South Avenue to Rich Street for over an hour. The incident occurred close to the PEACE, Inc. Merrick Head Start building. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
