Starting today (September 17), drivers on Interstate 81 northbound in Syracuse will experience lane closures due to bridge work. The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) announced that the highway will be reduced to one lane between Exit 18 and the Pearl Street on-ramp. The closures will be in effect from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays through Wednesday (September 24).

According to WSYR-TV, the construction activities are weather-dependent and subject to change based on conditions. Drivers are advised to use caution and pay attention to traffic control devices, including signs and flaggers. The NYSDOT reminds motorists that fines are doubled for speeding in work zones, and multiple speeding violations could lead to a suspended driver’s license.

For the latest traffic updates, drivers can visit 511NY.org or use the 511NY mobile app. The NYSDOT emphasizes the importance of slowing down and moving over for highway workers to ensure safety in the work zone.
