A new Taco Bell Cantina is set to open in Manlius in October, transforming a former firehouse into a unique dining venue. Unlike traditional Taco Bell locations, this cantina will offer an upscale menu and a liquor license, enhancing the dining experience. The project, initiated under former Mayor Paul Whorrall, aims to revitalize the area. "We got to have this. If we don’t, we won’t have anything," Whorrall said in January 2024. Current Mayor Hank Chapman supports this mission, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in the village's growth.

The building will also feature apartments on the top floor, sparking curiosity among locals. Anita Kuppermann, a nearby resident, expressed concerns about the noise for those living above. However, many see the development as a positive step. "They’re building like crazy! I said we need more of that," said Patricia Mumm, another neighbor.

Mayor Chapman highlighted the preservation of the firehouse as a priority, noting its significance to the community. "It’s an important part of our community," he said, praising the efforts to beautify and maintain the building. The opening of the cantina is part of a broader effort to revitalize Manlius's main street, with the village seeking more businesses that residents desire.

Hiring for the new location is expected to begin soon, as the community looks forward to the new addition.
