The New York State Department of Transportation is alerting motorists about a lane closure on Interstate 690 westbound between Syracuse and Geddes today (September 12). From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the road will be reduced to one lane between Exit 10 (Geddes Street) and Exit 12B (Amphitheater/Fairgrounds/Solvay) to facilitate necessary bridge work.
Drivers are advised to exercise caution in the construction zone and adhere to all posted signs and flaggers. Fines for speeding in work zones are doubled, and multiple speeding violations could lead to the suspension of a driver's license. The construction is weather-dependent and may change based on conditions, as noted by the Syracuse.com.
The lane reduction is part of ongoing efforts to maintain and improve infrastructure in the area. Motorists are encouraged to plan their routes accordingly and consider alternative paths to avoid potential delays. For real-time updates, drivers can visit 511NY.org or use the 511NY mobile app.
