City Hardware, a staple in Syracuse for nearly eight decades, will close its doors for good next month. The hardware store, located on South Geddes Street, has been a go-to spot for locals needing parts for home repairs since it first opened on Oswego Street in 1946.

Owner of City Hardware cited financial difficulties as the primary reason for the closure. The store experienced a significant 45 percent drop in revenue during the COVID-19 pandemic, which it has struggled to recover from. The last day of operation is scheduled for October 17, and currently, all items in the store are being sold at a 30 percent discount.

Despite the community's efforts to keep the store open, the financial strain has proven insurmountable. As reported by syracuse.com, the store's closure marks the end of an era for many local residents who have relied on its services for generations.
