The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued a drought watch for much of Central New York, including Oneida County. This advisory is the first of four levels of state drought advisories, which include watch, warning, emergency, and disaster. While there are no mandatory water restrictions in place, residents are encouraged to voluntarily conserve water. Local water suppliers may impose conservation measures based on local needs and conditions.

The region has experienced below-average rainfall, particularly during July, combined with 17 days of temperatures reaching 90 degrees or higher in Syracuse. This weather pattern has led to increased evapotranspiration, causing vegetation and lawns to dry out more quickly.

According to CNY Central, the weather forecast for Central New York remains uncertain, with computer models disagreeing on the exact pattern for the upcoming weekend. There is a possibility of partial sunshine with increasing cloud coverage and a chance of showers on Saturday afternoon. A better chance for passing showers or thundershowers is expected later Saturday night into early Sunday morning.

As reported by WKTV, dry weather is expected to return next week with warm temperatures. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather changes and potential impacts on drought conditions.
