Central New York is paying tribute to the victims of the September 11 attacks with several memorial events across the region. These events commemorate the lives lost 24 years ago in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
In Syracuse, a remembrance ceremony is taking place at Forman Park, organized by the Syracuse Police and Fire Departments. The event includes remarks, a moment of silence, and a tribute to first responders, inviting the community to reflect on the significance of the day, according to the City of Syracuse.
Meanwhile, in Canastota, the annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony will be held at Reflection Park on Peterboro Street. The event, starting at 7:00 p.m., will feature participation from local law enforcement, first responder agencies, veterans organizations, and government offices. Peterboro Street will be closed for the duration of the ceremony, as reported by the Village of Canastota.
Oswego is also hosting events to honor the day, including a Sunrise Silent Procession and a Remembrance Ceremony, as noted by Oswego County News Now.
These events coincide with the National Day of Service and Remembrance, encouraging Americans to volunteer in their communities in honor of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
