The New York State Department of Transportation (NYS DOT) has issued a travel advisory due to the ongoing Interstate 81 Viaduct Project in Syracuse. Starting tonight, I-81 will be reduced to one lane northbound between Exit 18 and Exit 23, and southbound from Exits 23A-23B-22, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. through September 20 (Saturday). The Sunset Avenue on-ramp to I-81 northbound will also be closed during these hours.

Motorists are advised to follow posted detours, which direct traffic north on Sunset Avenue, east on Bear Street, and north on Lodi Street to access I-81 northbound. Construction activities are weather-dependent and may change based on conditions.

The NYS DOT urges drivers to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in these areas, and convictions of two or more speeding violations could result in a suspended driver's license. For more information, visit the NYS DOT website.
