The superintendent of Syracuse City Schools, Anthony Davis, has announced his retirement, effective October 31. Davis will be succeeded by Pamela Odom, the current Deputy Superintendent, who has been with the district for 30 years. Odom, a Nottingham High School alumna, expressed gratitude for the opportunity and praised Davis for his leadership. She stated, "He has laid a strong foundation, and I am committed to continuing the work we’ve started; championing equity, empowering educators, and ensuring every child has the support they need to thrive."
Odom's career in the district began as a teaching assistant, and she has since held various roles, including vice principal, principal, and executive director of middle schools. She became the assistant superintendent of secondary schools, career and technical education, athletics, and adult education before becoming Deputy Superintendent.
Davis, who took on the role of superintendent in 2022 after initially serving as interim, will be the second consecutive leader to be promoted from within the district. Odom's appointment marks the third time in a row that the district has chosen an internal candidate for the superintendent position.
