Syracuse Hancock International Airport will receive over $13 million in federal funding for significant upgrades. The funding, part of the Federal Aviation Administration's Airport Improvement Program and Airport Infrastructure Grant Program, will focus on various projects, including runway, taxiway, and apron renovations.
According to WSYR-TV, the Airport Improvement Program will allocate $8,370,789 for taxiway renovations, while the Airport Infrastructure Grant will provide $3,449,014 for apron expansion. An additional $1,519,257 will be used for runway improvements, such as drainage, erosion control, signage, and lighting. These upgrades aim to accommodate increased passenger flights due to Micron's upcoming facility in Clay.
The funding is part of a larger initiative, with Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announcing a total of $66,699,586 for 22 airports across New York State. This investment is expected to enhance safety and improve the passenger experience at these airports.
In addition to the federal grants, Syracuse Hancock International Airport will receive $1.3 million for a new rescue and fire truck. These developments follow a series of renovation projects at the airport, including a new parking system and a state-funded project for the north concourse.
