No charges will be filed following a fatal officer-involved shooting in Syracuse. The state's Attorney General's Office announced on Tuesday (August 26) that a prosecutor could not disprove beyond a reasonable doubt that the officer's use of deadly force was justified. The incident occurred on May 13 at a North Townsend Street apartment complex, where 42-year-old Donnell Hogan was shot during an encounter with police.

According to CNY Central, officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a man firing a weapon inside the complex. Hogan, who was in a wheelchair, fired his weapon at the officers. In response, an officer fired a single shot, which struck and killed Hogan. No officers were injured during the incident.

The New York Attorney General's Office of Special Investigation released body-worn camera footage from the incident to increase transparency and public trust. The footage shows the brief encounter, which lasted only a few seconds, as reported by the Attorney General's Office. The release of the footage is not an indication of any party's guilt or innocence.

The Syracuse Police Department and the Attorney General's Office have concluded their investigation, determining that the officer's actions were justified under the circumstances.
