As Labor Day weekend approaches, gas prices in Central New York are seeing a slight increase. According to AAA, the average cost for a gallon of regular fuel in the region is now $3.09, up one cent from last week. Despite this rise, prices remain four cents lower than a month ago. The state and national averages both stand at $3.15 per gallon.
AAA reports that the national average has risen by two cents since last Monday, while New York's average has decreased by one cent. Compared to last year, gas prices are lower, with the national average being $3.35 at the same time in 2024.
Travel trends for the holiday weekend indicate that many Americans are opting for road trips, with Seattle, Orlando, and New York being popular destinations. Mainstreet Daily News notes that domestic travel costs, including flights, hotels, and car rentals, are generally cheaper this year. However, international airfare has increased by 8%.
AAA expects gas prices to remain stable unless affected by events such as hurricanes impacting Gulf Coast refineries. Travelers are advised to plan their trips early in the day to avoid traffic congestion, especially on Saturday when peak travel is expected.
