Construction has begun on the highly anticipated butter sculpture for the New York State Fair, which will take place from August 20 to September 1 in Syracuse. The American Dairy Association North East has received 800 pounds of butter from Batavia, which sculptors Jim Victor and Marie Pelton will use to create this year's masterpiece. The sculpture is a tribute to New York's 2,800 dairy farmers, highlighting their contributions to the state's economy and agricultural heritage.
According to RochesterFirst, this marks the 57th year of the butter sculpture tradition. The butter, provided by O-AT-KA Milk Products, is not suitable for retail sale but perfect for sculpting. The sculpture will be unveiled on Tuesday, August 19, and the event will be livestreamed on the American Dairy Association North East's Facebook page.
After the fair, the butter will be recycled into renewable energy at Noblehurst Farms, as reported by WHEC. This initiative has kept over four tons of butter out of landfills in the past decade. The fair, which includes all concerts and attractions in the price of admission, promises to offer a memorable experience for attendees.
