Residents in Oswego remain under a boil and conserve water advisory following a water main break on Thursday (August 7). The advisory affects those living from 472 West First Street to Munn Street, including the Burden Drive area and all of the Munn Street district. The city has extended the advisory through Friday (August 15) as crews continue to repair the damage and conduct necessary water testing.
Residents are advised to boil water for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, or other household tasks. The city also urges residents to conserve water by avoiding lawn watering and sprinkler use. According to Oswego County News Now, the water main break led to a loss of pressure, increasing the risk of contamination by harmful microbes.
The city plans to lift the advisory once water testing confirms safety. Until then, residents are encouraged to use bottled water certified by the New York State Department of Health. WSYR-TV reports that the advisory was initially expected to end sooner, but necessary repairs and testing have extended the timeline.
Anyone with questions or concerns can contact the local health department for more information.
