Starting today, motorists traveling northbound on Interstate 81 in Syracuse will experience a lane reduction due to ongoing bridge work. The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) announced that the highway will be reduced to one lane between the Pearl Street on-ramp and Exit 23, which connects to Park Street and Hiawatha Boulevard. This change will be in effect on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., continuing through Tuesday (August 19).

The lane reduction is part of the I-81 Viaduct Project, an extensive infrastructure initiative aimed at improving the highway system in the area. According to the NYSDOT, construction activities are weather-dependent and may change based on conditions.

Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in the work zones. The NYSDOT emphasizes that fines are doubled for speeding in these areas, and convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could lead to the suspension of a driver's license.
