The New York State Fair has launched a new Fairgrounds Alert System to enhance safety for attendees. Fairgoers can sign up for real-time updates by texting "NYSF" to 888777. The system will provide critical information on weather, security, and event changes during the 13-day fair and other events throughout the year.
According to the New York State Fair website, the alert system is part of a broader initiative to ensure a safe and family-friendly environment. Fair Director Julie LaFave emphasized the importance of communication, especially after past incidents like a shooting scare and severe weather disruptions.
LaFave explained that the alert system aims to quickly notify fairgoers and vendors during emergencies or even for non-emergency updates like concert cancellations. The system will also be used for other events at the fairgrounds, such as the Syracuse Nationals and Blues Fest, as reported by WSYR-TV.
The fair, which runs from August 20 to September 1, will feature enhanced safety measures, including integration with the National Weather Service, metal detectors, surveillance cameras, and a strong presence of public safety agencies. The fairgrounds will also offer misting stations and water filling stations for visitors.
