A former high school basketball coach from Lyons Central School District, Dean E. Schott II, has been charged with a criminal sex act in the third degree and sexual abuse in the third degree. The charges were announced on Wednesday (August 6) by the Wayne County District Attorney's Office following an investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. The allegations against Schott stem from an incident reported to have occurred in the summer of 2019.
Schott, who had been employed by the Lyons Central School District for 22 years, resigned earlier this year. According to WSYR-TV, deputies escorted Schott off school grounds in April, which marked the beginning of the criminal investigation. Schott was arraigned in Wayne County Court, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was released on his own recognizance, as the charges do not qualify for bail.
During a press conference, Wayne County Sheriff Robert Milby and District Attorney Christine K. Callanan provided details about the case. They indicated that there might be additional victims and urged anyone with information to contact the authorities at (315) 946-5800.
Schott is scheduled to return to court on October 10. As reported by Spectrum Local News, the investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are actively seeking more potential victims.
