The Syracuse Mets are inviting fans to participate in the "Re-Name the Team Community Challenge" to help choose a new name for the team ahead of the 2027 season. This initiative coincides with the 150th anniversary of professional baseball in Syracuse. Fans can submit their name suggestions through electronic forms on the Syracuse Mets' website until the end of August. The top ten names will be announced in early September for further voting, and the winning name will be revealed in the fall of 2026.

The team, which will continue to play as the Syracuse Mets for the 2026 season, aims to create a name that reflects a local connection to Central New York. According to Jason Smorol, General Manager, "We have been listening to fans over the years, and while so many love the Mets name and the connection to our MLB affiliate, there are so many that also long for a local connection to their hometown team."

The team will maintain its affiliation with the New York Mets through at least 2030, and the official team colors will remain orange and royal blue. The beloved mascot, Scooch, will continue to entertain fans at NBT Bank Stadium and community events. The Syracuse Mets have undergone several name changes in the past, including the Syracuse Chiefs, SkyChiefs, and Stars.

The rebranding effort is supported by VisitSyracuse.com, aiming to ensure the new name resonates with those familiar with Central New York. Fans are encouraged to submit creative and family-friendly suggestions.
