A public hearing is scheduled for Wednesday (August 6) in Auburn to discuss a proposed wind turbine project impacting the towns of Scipio and Venice. The New York State Office of Renewable Energy Siting and Electric Transmission (ORES) will conduct the hearing to gather public comments on the Agricola Wind, LLC project, which plans to install 24 wind turbines, each 650 feet tall, in southern Cayuga County.

The hearing will take place at 6:00 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn in Auburn. According to CNY Central, the project is expected to generate 99 megawatts of power if approved. Construction could begin next year, with the facility operational by 2027.

Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to attend the hearing to voice their opinions. The New York State Department of Public Service emphasizes that both oral and written comments will be given equal consideration. Written comments must be submitted by Friday (August 8) to be included in the administrative record.

Concerns have been raised by the Town of Scipio Planning Board regarding the impact of the turbines on the rural landscape. The project is part of a broader effort to increase renewable energy sources in New York, though it may face opposition due to environmental and aesthetic concerns.
