Drivers in Syracuse should prepare for delays on Interstate 690 eastbound this week due to a lane reduction. The New York State Department of Transportation announced that traffic will be reduced to a single lane between Exit 9 (Bear Street) and Exit 11 (West Street) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, starting today (August 4) through Friday (August 8). This reduction is necessary to complete bridge work in the area.
The construction schedule is weather-dependent, and conditions may cause changes to the planned activities. Motorists are advised to exercise caution while traveling through the work zone and to pay attention to traffic control devices, including signs and flaggers. According to LocalSYR, fines are doubled for speeding in work zones, and multiple speeding violations could lead to a suspended driver's license.
