Starting today, motorists traveling northbound on Interstate 81 in Syracuse will face lane reductions due to bridge work. The New York State Department of Transportation announced that from today through August 8, the highway will be reduced to one lane between Exit 18 and the Interstate 690 westbound off-ramp. Crews will work on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. as part of the ongoing Interstate 81 Viaduct Project.
WSYR-TV reports that construction activities are weather-dependent and subject to change. The New York State Department of Transportation advises drivers to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones, as fines are doubled for speeding in these areas.
The project is part of a broader effort to improve infrastructure in the area. According to Syracuse.com, motorists can expect additional closures and lane reductions on I-81 and Route 481 as part of the Viaduct Project. The state urges drivers to stay informed by checking live traffic updates at 511ny.org.
