The Central New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (CNY SPCA) is hosting the "Rescue Effect" Adoption Event on Saturday (August 2), waiving adoption fees for all animals except puppies and kittens. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at their Syracuse location.

The initiative, supported by a federal grant, aims to alleviate financial burdens for potential adopters by covering costs such as spaying and neutering. According to CNY Central, Jean Madigan, Executive Director of the CNY SPCA, explained, "The cost can run up to $175 for some animals, and that can just be too much for some families." The event hopes to encourage the adoption of older animals who have been at the shelter for extended periods.

With the shelter currently at full capacity, the event could be transformative for both the animals and adopters. Madigan emphasized the impact of adoption, stating, "Not only do you give that animal a loving home and a second chance at life, but you also help create more room and resources here—and that helps us help so many more animals in need".

For those unable to adopt, the CNY SPCA is also seeking foster families to provide temporary homes for animals. More details about the event and fostering opportunities can be found on the CNY SPCA website.
