Syracuse University will honor two of its legendary athletes by retiring their jerseys later this year. Art Monk, a former wide receiver for the Syracuse Orange, and Alyssa Manley, a standout in field hockey, will join the ranks of previous honorees like Carmelo Anthony and Jim Brown. Monk's jersey will be retired during the Orange football game against Boston College on November 29 at the JMA Wireless Dome. Monk, who wore No. 45, played for Syracuse from 1976 to 1979, leading the team in receptions and receiving yards for three consecutive years. He went on to a successful NFL career, winning three Super Bowls and earning a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2008.

Manley, who will have her jersey retired on the weekend of September 26, was instrumental in leading the Syracuse women's field hockey team to its first national championship. She was also a recipient of the 2015 Honda Award. Her jersey will be the second in Syracuse field hockey history to be retired, following Julie Williamson's No. 9.

According to Sports Illustrated, Syracuse honors its athletes by retiring jerseys, not specific numbers, meaning Monk and Manley's numbers will remain available for future players. The ceremony will celebrate their contributions to Syracuse's rich athletic history.
