The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) is alerting drivers about a temporary closure on Interstate 81 in Cicero. Starting tonight (July 30), the northbound Exit 29N off-ramp will be closed from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. on weeknights until Saturday (August 2). This closure is part of the ongoing I-81 Viaduct Project, which includes paving, guiderail installation, and striping work.
Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour, which directs traffic to Exit 28 (Taft Road/North Syracuse), then east on East Taft Road, north on Northern Boulevard, and finally to Interstate 481 northbound. The NYSDOT emphasizes the importance of driving responsibly in work zones, as fines are doubled for speeding, and multiple violations could lead to license suspension.
According to the NYSDOT, construction activities are weather-dependent and subject to change. For real-time updates, drivers can visit the 511NY website or download the 511NY mobile app. The department urges motorists to slow down and move over for highway workers to ensure safety.
