An 18-year-old named Nakise Elliott remains in custody for his alleged involvement in a shooting that injured three children in Syracuse, New York. Prosecutors allege that Elliott opened fire on a group of children playing at the intersection of Knaul Street and Hier Avenue last month. The victims, aged 8, 9, and 12, were taken to Upstate University Hospital with injuries to the arm, buttocks, and foot, respectively, but they survived.
Elliott faces multiple charges of second-degree attempted murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. If convicted, each attempted murder charge could result in a sentence of up to 25 years in prison. Elliott was reportedly on a Veo electric scooter with another person during the shooting, according to District Attorney William Fitzpatrick.
The police apprehended Elliott shortly after the incident and he is currently held at the Onondaga County Justice Center. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have urged anyone with information to contact them. Elliott is scheduled to appear in court again on October 1.
According to Syracuse.com, prosecutors have offered Elliott a plea deal of 15 years in prison, but it is unclear if he will accept it.
