Time is running out for Syracuse residents to participate in the city's snowplow naming competition. Mayor Ben Walsh announced the contest earlier this month, inviting the community to submit creative and Syracuse-inspired names for the city's snowplow fleet. The deadline for submissions is Friday (July 25).
Residents can submit their entries through an online form available on the city's website. The competition aims to engage the community and celebrate Syracuse's reputation for efficient snow removal. Syracuse recently won the Golden Snowball Award for receiving the most snowfall among upstate New York's five largest cities during the 2024-2025 winter season.
According to Syr.gov, the city is looking for names that are fun, creative, and reflective of Syracuse's unique character. Once all submissions are gathered, the selected names will be announced to the public.
The contest is part of Syracuse's ongoing effort to embrace its winter weather and foster community involvement. Residents are encouraged to think outside the box and avoid common suggestions like "Sir Plows-A-Lot," as noted by Syracuse.com.
