Names Released of Syracuse Students Killed by Dump Truck

Syracuse police have released the names of two Syracuse University students who were tragically killed by a dump truck near the university campus. The victims, identified as 23-year-old Wanshan Li and 24-year-old Aoyo Cui, were struck at the intersection of East Adams Street and University Avenue on Thursday (July 10). Both were international students enrolled in the College of Engineering and Computer Science.

The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. when the students were walking near the campus. Syracuse Police, along with the Syracuse Fire Department and Syracuse University Ambulance, responded to the scene. Wanshan Li was pronounced dead at the scene, while Aoyo Cui was transported to Upstate University Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the dump truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with the authorities. No charges have been filed at this time, but the investigation remains active. Syracuse Police are urging anyone with information to contact their Traffic Division at 315-442-5130.

According to Syracuse.com, the tragic event has sent shockwaves through the university community, as both students were well-regarded within their academic circles.
