New federal data reveals that airfare at Syracuse Hancock International Airport increased by more than eight percent during the fourth quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. This rise marks the largest increase among the four major Upstate New York airports and the third-largest statewide. The average airfare in Syracuse for the fourth quarter was $400.65, up from $370.15 the previous year, according to Syracuse.com.

While Syracuse saw a significant increase, Binghamton and Watertown airports experienced even larger jumps in airfare, with increases of over 42% and 27%, respectively. These figures come from a regular survey conducted by the federal Bureau of Transportation Statistics, which includes averages based on domestic fares for both round-trip and one-way tickets. The data reflects prices charged by airlines plus any additional taxes and fees, excluding baggage fees paid at the airport or during a flight.

Among the major Upstate New York airports, Buffalo had the lowest average fare in the fourth quarter at $339.51, while Albany had the highest at $431.41, as reported by NewYorkUpstate.com. The U.S. average airfare for the same period was $397.63, showing an increase of about 3.3% from the previous year.
