Traffic on Interstate 690 in Syracuse will experience disruptions as westbound lanes are reduced to one between Exit 14 (Teall Ave) and Exit 13 (Townsend St/Downtown). The New York State Department of Transportation announced the closures will occur daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., starting Wednesday (July 9) through Friday (July 11).

These lane reductions are part of the ongoing Interstate 81 Viaduct Project, which includes pavement markings and the installation of a temporary concrete barrier. Construction activities are weather-dependent and may change based on conditions.

Drivers are urged to slow down and adhere to speed limits in work zones, as fines for speeding are doubled. Multiple violations could lead to a driver's license suspension. For live traffic updates, visit 511ny.org.

The I-81 Viaduct Project is a significant infrastructure initiative aimed at improving traffic flow and safety in the region. The project has seen various phases, including bridge work and road expansions, affecting multiple routes in the Syracuse area.

Motorists should plan for delays and consider alternate routes to avoid congestion. For more information on the project and other travel advisories, visit the New York State Department of Transportation website.
