An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of a house fire that occurred on Sunday (July 6) in Syracuse The blaze, which broke out at 319 Apple Street in the Park Avenue neighborhood, sent two people to the hospital for smoke inhalation. The fire was reported around 5:40 p.m., and firefighters found heavy flames coming from the front of the two-story home upon arrival. Crews managed to contain the fire in about 30 minutes, according to Deputy Fire Chief James Farewell.
The two residents, a man and a woman, were able to escape the house before firefighters arrived and were subsequently taken to the hospital for evaluation. Fortunately, no firefighters were injured during the operation, despite the challenging conditions with a heat index of 93 degrees.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and authorities have not yet determined if any suspicious activity was involved. The incident is part of a series of recent fires in Syracuse, including another on Midland Avenue, where fireworks may have played a role in igniting the blaze.
As the investigation continues, residents are reminded to exercise caution with potential fire hazards, especially during the summer months.
