Gas prices in Central New York have decreased slightly after weeks of rising costs. According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is now $3.13, down two cents from last week. However, this is still eight cents higher than prices a month ago. The state average stands at $3.19, while the national average is $3.14, as reported by AAA.
Despite the recent decrease, gas prices remain higher than last year. Valerie Puma, Communications Specialist for AAA Western and Central New York, highlighted that the current state average is $0.41 lower than last year. She noted, "Even if you go to the gas station and you feel it’s kind of high, having that perspective of what we were seeing last year, I think, is really helpful context." Puma also mentioned that the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline was about $3.51 last year, compared to $3.16 this year.
