The American Red Cross is hosting the Holiday Heroes blood drive today (Wednesday, July 2) in Syracuse from noon until 6 p.m. The event aims to address the critical need for blood donations during the summer months, a time when donations typically decline. Donation sites include the Solvay Fire Department, Hamilton First Baptist Church, Fulton Manlius Fire Department, and Saint John the Evangelist Church.
The blood drive is organized in partnership with the Corporal Kyle R. Schneider Foundation, which honors the legacy of Corporal Kyle R. Schneider, a Baldwinsville High School graduate who served in the United States Marine Corps and lost his life in 2011. His family is committed to giving back to the community through initiatives like the blood drive.
Billy Brill of the Red Cross emphasized the constant need for blood donations, noting that busy summer schedules and extreme heat can impact donation levels. To participate, individuals can schedule an appointment by visiting redcrossblood.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS, or using the Red Cross Blood Donor App.
For those unable to donate today, appointments can be scheduled through July 31 to support the cause. More information about the Corporal Kyle R. Schneider Foundation can be found at CPLKyleSchneider.com.
