Local airports in New York are set to receive a portion of over $40 million in federal funding for upgrades and improvements. The funding, announced by Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer, will benefit Cortland County/Chase Field, Griffiss International, Hamilton Municipal, and Oswego County airports.
The funds, part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, aim to enhance safety and modernize facilities. At Hamilton Municipal Airport, the funding will support the construction of a new 1,350-square-foot terminal to improve passenger and baggage movement. Other airports will use the funds for infrastructure repairs and improvements, including equipment replacement and signage reconstruction.
According to CNY Central, these upgrades are expected to enhance the passenger experience and support local economies. Senator Schumer emphasized the importance of these investments, stating, "This $40+ million in federal funding will help our airports invest in key safety upgrades and modernization efforts."
Senator Gillibrand also highlighted the significance of the funding, noting that it is a major investment in modernizing airports across the state. The funding will also benefit larger airports, such as Albany International Airport, which will receive nearly $22 million for terminal renovations.
Spectrum Local News reported that the funding will be used for various improvements, including runway repairs, new signage, and weather equipment upgrades. The investments aim to boost safety and efficiency at airports, benefiting both residents and visitors.
The funding is part of a broader effort to modernize infrastructure across New York and support the state's tourism and commerce sectors.
