The New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) is alerting motorists about lane closures on Interstate 81 northbound in Syracuse. Starting today (June 30), the highway will be reduced to one lane between Exit 17 (S Salina St/Brighton Ave) and Exit 18 (Adams St/Harrison St) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily until Wednesday (July 2). The lane reduction is necessary to facilitate bridge work in the area.
According to the New York State DOT, construction activities are weather-dependent and may change based on conditions. Motorists are urged to drive responsibly and slow down in work zones, as fines for speeding are doubled. Repeated speeding violations in work zones can lead to the suspension of a driver’s license.
The DOT emphasizes the importance of safety for both motorists and highway workers. For up-to-date travel information, motorists can call 511, visit 511NY.org, or download the 511NY mobile app.
