The New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) has announced upcoming lane closures on Interstate 81 northbound in Syracuse. Starting Thursday (June 26), the highway is reduced to a single lane between Exit 18 (Adams St/Harrison St) and the Interstate 690 eastbound on-ramp. This reduction is necessary to facilitate bridge work and will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays, continuing until Wednesday (July 2). The work will resume on Monday (July 7) and is expected to conclude on Friday (July 18).

According to the New York State DOT, these construction activities are weather-dependent and may change based on conditions. Motorists are advised to anticipate delays and consider alternate routes. The DOT also reminds drivers to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones, as fines are doubled for speeding. Multiple speeding violations in work zones could lead to the suspension of a driver's license.

Local news outlet CNY Central reports that this closure is part of ongoing efforts to maintain and improve infrastructure in the area. As the work progresses, drivers should stay informed about potential changes to the schedule.
