Syracuse police have arrested Mikel Hackett, 39, in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in April on Syracuse's North Side. Hackett is accused of shooting and killing 26-year-old Mason Doran on Neutral Court on April 23. The incident followed an argument between the two men, according to police. Hackett was apprehended in the Albany area by the United States Marshal's Task Force and transported back to Syracuse, where he faces charges of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Court documents reveal that surveillance video captured Hackett involved in two physical altercations with Doran. During the second altercation, Hackett allegedly extended his right arm toward Doran, and gunshots were heard. Doran was found with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and was unresponsive at the scene. He was later pronounced dead at Upstate University Hospital.

Hackett, who has served three prior stints in prison, pleaded not guilty in court on Thursday (June 19). He is being held without bail at the Onondaga County Justice Center. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to contact the Syracuse Police Department Criminal Investigations Division.
