Lane closures on Interstate 481 in DeWitt are expected to affect traffic as part of the ongoing Interstate 81 Viaduct Project. Starting Thursday (June 19), both northbound and southbound lanes will be reduced to one lane between Exit 4 (I-690 West/Syracuse) and Exit 5E (Kirkville Road East) from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weeknights until Saturday (June 21).
The New York State Department of Transportation announced that these closures are necessary for the installation of beams on a bridge over the CSX railyard. According to the Department of Transportation, the work schedule is weather-dependent and may change based on conditions.
Motorists are urged to drive cautiously in work zones, as fines for speeding are doubled. The Department also warns that multiple speeding violations in work zones could lead to a suspension of a driver's license.
