The Onondaga County Sheriff's Office has identified the kayaker who drowned in Tully Lake as 21-year-old Kader Oulasie from the Bronx, New York. Oulasie was kayaking with a friend on Sunday (June 15) when his kayak capsized, causing him to fall into the water. Tragically, he was not wearing a life jacket at the time.
Oulasie's friend attempted to save him but was unable to do so. The friend then went to shore to seek help. A nearby resident also attempted a rescue after hearing cries for help but was unsuccessful. The Onondaga County Sheriff's Office, along with local fire departments and the Air-1 Unit, conducted a search operation using dive teams and sonar equipment. Oulasie's body was recovered on Monday (June 16) by the Onondaga County Underwater Dive Unit.
The Sheriff's Office expressed condolences to Oulasie's family and friends, acknowledging the profound impact of this loss. The incident remains under investigation as authorities seek to understand the circumstances that led to the tragic accident.
