Cicero drivers should prepare for a road closure starting tonight (June 18). The New York State Department of Transportation announced that South Bay Road will be closed between East Circle Drive and East Pine Grove Road from 7 p.m. this evening until 7 p.m. tomorrow night (June 19). This closure is necessary for utility work on the South Bay Road Bridge, which is part of the Interstate 81 Viaduct Project.
Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour routes. Northbound drivers should head west on East Circle Drive, north on U.S. Route 11, east on State Route 31, south on Thompson Road, and then south on South Bay Road. Southbound drivers should go north on South Bay Road, south on Thompson Road, south on Northern Boulevard, north on Interstate 481, exit at Circle Drive/North Syracuse, and then east on East Circle Drive back to South Bay Road.
The work is weather-dependent, and drivers should be aware that conditions may change. The Department of Transportation urges drivers to adhere to speed limits in work zones, as fines are doubled for speeding, and multiple violations can lead to license suspension. For more details, visit LocalSYR.
