The Central New York region now boasts its first Parkinson's disease wellness center, which opened its doors on Wednesday (June 11) in Liverpool. Located on West Taft Road, the Parkinson Wellness Center offers a range of services to support individuals with Parkinson's disease and their families.

The center, operated by Empower Parkinson's Inc., provides resources such as education, exercise, and socialization opportunities. It aims to improve the quality of life for those affected by Parkinson's, a brain disorder that can impact movement, balance, and mood. The center's offerings include boxing fitness classes, yoga, and nutrition advice, which help manage symptoms and maintain functional abilities.

Executive Director Patrick VanBevern emphasized the importance of the center, noting that it eliminates the need for patients to travel far for specialized care. He stated, "There’s lots of life after Parkinson’s, and a lot of people will come to us a year or two in and say, you know, I’m in better shape now than before I got Parkinson’s."

The grand opening featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by local dignitaries, including County Executive Ryan McMahon. The center's establishment marks a significant milestone for Parkinson's care in Central New York, providing long-term support and resources for the community.
