Nearly a year after a devastating EF-2 tornado struck Rome, the Upper New York Conference of the United Methodist Church has donated $20,000 to aid ongoing recovery efforts. The funds have been given to Connected Community Schools, an organization that has played a crucial role in helping the community rebuild after the disaster.
The Rome Recovery Fund was established in response to the tornado's aftermath, with contributions from 79 local churches and 71 individuals, totaling over $45,000 for UNY Disaster Response. Bishop Héctor A. Burgos Núñez expressed gratitude for the donations, stating, "Thanks to the compassionate giving of our congregations and individuals across Upper New York, we’re able to continue walking alongside communities still recovering from last summer’s disasters."
According to WSYR-TV, the UNY Disaster Response has been active in assisting eight communities affected by severe weather in the region, providing funding, coordinating volunteer teams, and delivering disaster relief materials.
