Syracuse police have confirmed that four shootings occurring on Sunday (June 8) in different parts of the city are not connected. The shootings resulted in one fatality and three non-life-threatening injuries. The incidents took place near Erie Boulevard West and Geddes Street, Onondaga Avenue, Park Street, and Westmoreland Avenue.

The first shooting happened at 3:43 a.m. on Erie Boulevard West, where a man in his 30s was shot in the leg. He was taken to Upstate University Hospital and is in stable condition. Later, at 1:06 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in the lower back on Onondaga Avenue and is also stable. At 5:45 p.m., an 18-year-old male was shot on Park Street, sustaining a lower back injury. The day's final and fatal shooting occurred at 6:09 p.m. on Westmoreland Avenue, where a 22-year-old man was shot and later died at the hospital.

According to Syracuse.com, Deputy Chief Richard Shoff stated, "There’s no commonality to them, and there’s no relationship between them." Police have identified persons of interest in these cases, but no arrests have been made yet.

The Syracuse Police Department urges anyone with information to contact their Criminal Investigations Division at (315) 442-5222. The investigations are ongoing, and police have not disclosed whether any weapons were recovered.

So far this year, Syracuse has reported 26 shootings with injuries or fatalities, marking a 53% increase from last year but a 55% decrease from the five-year average.
