Early education programs in Syracuse are set to receive a significant financial boost, thanks to more than $7 million in federal funding. Congressman John Mannion announced the funding, which will go to PEACE, Inc., an organization that supports nearly 1,000 low-income children and families in Onondaga County. The funding will be used for Head Start programs, which provide early education, health services, and family support. According to CNY Central, Mannion emphasized the importance of early education, stating, "Early education is not a luxury—it’s a necessity."
PEACE, Inc. Executive Director Carolyn Brown expressed gratitude for the funding, highlighting its critical role in supporting families as costs rise and more families seek assistance. The funding is part of ongoing efforts to combat childhood poverty in Syracuse, which remains one of the highest in the nation. LocalSYR reported that this is the second installment of Head Start funding for PEACE, Inc., allowing for the continued delivery of essential services.
Mannion remains committed to securing more funding for programs like Head Start, ensuring that every child, regardless of background, has a fair start and the best chance to succeed. InformNNY noted that the funding will also support developmental screenings, nutrition, and services for working, low-income families in the area.
