Starting today (June 9), motorists traveling through Syracuse will experience a lane reduction on Interstate 81 southbound. The highway will be reduced to one lane between the Interstate 690 eastbound on-ramp and Exit 18 (Adams St/Harrison St) to facilitate bridge inspection work. This lane reduction will be in effect from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays through Friday (June 13), as part of the ongoing I-81 Viaduct Project.

The New York State Department of Transportation has advised that construction activities are weather-dependent and may change based on conditions. Motorists are urged to drive slowly and responsibly in the work zone, as fines for speeding are doubled. According to the New York State Department of Transportation, multiple speeding violations in a work zone could lead to the suspension of a driver’s license.

For the latest updates on travel conditions, drivers can visit 511NY.org or use the 511NY mobile app. The I-81 Viaduct Project continues to progress with various construction activities aimed at improving infrastructure in the area.
